The champion has developed a taste for it

Barilla’s new commercials for its Wholewheat and 5-Cereal Pasta, Salsa Pronta [Ready-Made Sauce] and Ragù Classico [Classic Ragù] will once again feature Roger Federer on a new competition ground for him: the kitchen. After his first meeting with master chef Davide Oldani and his trip to New York, to share the pleasure of Pesto Pasta with his friends, here are four new lessons developed to test him and further improve his cooking skills, while he continues - with a few tennis gestures and athletic movements - to bring his personal touch to Italian cooking and the most iconic dish in the Mediterranean diet. In these lessons, the Swiss champion will use two ready-made sauce recipes and two pasta recipes provided by Maestro Oldani to try to achieve something classic with a touch of creativity.
The commercials, each lasting 15 seconds, were created by the JWT agency and will be aired in Italy starting from May 20th, and in the main areas of the world where Barilla operates from the second half of the year.
FOUR MASTER CLASSES COMBINING TRADITION WITH CREATIVITY
The creative idea is that a plate of pasta is much more than a simple meal: it encompasses the whole universe of values, experience, tradition and well-being of the Mediterranean diet. In fact, each commercial is associated with a lesson, or rather a “master class", and a key word: in "Simplicity", the reference is to the "ID" of the pasta sauce, the tomato sauce, which Barilla offers in its simplest and most authentic form, its Salsa Pronta with Italian tomatoes and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. A sweet and delicate sauce, full-bodied and velvety, which enhances the consistency and flavor of durum wheat tortiglioni.
The second master class is entitled “Respect” and is dedicated to Bolognese meat sauce, an emblematic Sunday lunchtime recipe that Barilla offers in a traditional version: long cooking time, traditional soffritto and meat from Italian farms. Federer combines this with Barilla’s emiliane and finishes it off with a pinch of... rosemary and creativity.
The star ingredient of the third master class is Barilla’s 5-cereal pasta, a new product range developed for flavor and well-being which is gaining more and more success among Italians. The recipe prepared by Federer comes from an idea by Davide Oldani and encompasses all the freshness and warmth of the summer season: the “5-cereal pennette” are seasoned with orange juice, almonds, peas and zucchini, perfect to enhance the rich flavor of the pasta.
The final class is “Surprise” and brings the process of improving Federer’s cooking skills to a close. The recipe reinterprets the classic Cacio & Pepe dish, combined with Barilla’s wholewheat spaghetti and a masterly touch: grated lemon zest to make it fresher and more harmonious. And in fact, because of its delicate flavor and perfect consistency, it helps dispel the idea that wholewheat pasta is made exclusively for people who care about their health and well-being.
