Parma, October 09, 2017 – The 5th edition of the “Disability Matters Conference & Awards Gala”, one of the most important corporate events dedicated to the topic of disability and its inclusion in the workplace, will take on October 9 and 10, 2017 at Starhotels - Du Parc in Parma. The conference is held annually in Europe, North America and Asia. This year, the European Conference will be held in Parma and is promoted by Barilla, in its capacity as a partner and sponsor of Springboard Consulting, the company organising the event. The purpose of the project, which was launched in 2015, is to support people who work, those who volunteer and are engaged in the world of youth disability with resources like training programs.
Disability Matters’ purpose is that of supporting babies, children and young people up to 25 years of age to overcome the barriers that the society and life erect every day.
In line with its “Good for you, good for the Planet” company mission, Barilla carries on in its commitment to enhance people, in full respect of their personal integrity and rejecting any form of discrimination or exclusion linked to age, culture, ethnicity, nationality, religion, opinion, status, gender, sexual orientation and disability.
The Conference will see the contribution of outstanding speakers, representing the best corporate practices, as well as experts from the academic world, institutions and other sectors. One of the guests will be paralympic champion Bebe Vio, joining a session with Paolo Barilla, Vice-Chairman of the Barilla Group, on October 10.
The project, developed in collaboration with youths with disabilities, parents and field experts, offers games, learning sessions and activities that, based on the children’s and youths’ abilities, will help them feel part of the surrounding world. The purpose is ensuring that their different abilities become their strengths for inclusion removing barriers.
Diversity and inclusion have long been an integral part of Barilla’s culture, values and code of ethics, and are a determining factor in the company’s way of doing business. This is reflected in the company’s policies and benefits offered to staff, regardless of age, disability, sex, race, religion or sexual orientation.
Barilla has recently launched “Hackability”, a competition between interdisciplinary teams where people with disabilities, together with makers and designers, can imagine tools to cook and new packaging ideas suitable for people with special needs.
