Barilla al Bronzo gets a makeover: the new look of the pasta that does “scarpetta”
19 December 2024
In 2022, we introduced our Barilla Al Bronzo pasta with an iconic commercial portraying a group of people gathered around a beautifully laid table, savouring the joy of good food. The air was filled with the emotional notes of the Flower Duet, while a starry sky above the city rooftops set the perfect backdrop.
What inspired us then – and continues to drive us now – was the desire to offer people a new taste experience, one defined by unparalleled intensity. Over the past year, this passion has evolved, fuelling our ambition to push further and explore new horizons for our premium pasta line.
That’s why, in November, we were excited to reveal the latest chapter in the story of Al Bronzo: a restyling that blends tradition with innovation, crafted to deliver even more unforgettable experiences of flavour for our consumers.
THE NEW LOOK OF BARILLA AL BRONZO
In 2022, the vibrant red of the Al Bronzo boxes joined the iconic blue of our Blue Box on supermarket shelves. Starting this year, these boxes are getting a fresh new look, with a deeper, more sophisticated shade.
Quality, innovation and uniqueness have been the guiding principles for our Marketing, Research & Development, Production and Packaging teams throughout the past year. Their hard work has resulted in a completely recyclable box, featuring a window that once again showcases the beauty of our bronze-cut pasta.
With the new graphic design we have developed, Barilla Al Bronzo strengthens its identity, making it stand out in the crowded marketplace while proudly showcasing our logo and reaffirming its place in our larger family.
THE SAME FLAVOUR AS ALWAYS
Even in its more refined new look, Barilla Al Bronzo pasta remains a testament to our passion for tradition, great food and the art of doing things perfectly. The recipe, preparation method and the ten Al Bronzo formats – from spaghetti to linguine, from penne to fusilli– remain unchanged.
It all starts with the careful selection of fine durum wheat, giving Al Bronzo its signature round, slightly toasted flavour.
Our traditional bronze-cut method uses bronze dies that create micro-incisions on the surface of the pasta, designed to roughen its texture and allow it to capture all the sauce to perfection.
This is our modern take on the “Scarpetta”, the action of mopping up the remaining sauce in your plate with some bread, and is designed to bring one of Italy’s oldest and most cherished culinary traditions into the present, refined and reimagined.
GOLD STANDARD BRONZE-CUT PASTA
Though still in its early days, Al Bronzo pasta has already earned some prestigious accolades in Italy. These recognitions not only fill us with pride but also drive us to push forward on the exciting journey toward an even brighter, more international future.
In January 2023, just one year after is market debut, Barilla Al Bronzo – especially its Spaghetti – was named “Best in Test” by Altroconsumo following a comparison of over twenty spaghetti brands. The evaluation considered a range of factors, from the label and packaging to the quality of the ingredients, cooking performance and, of course, taste.
For two years running, both in January 2023 and January 2024, Al Bronzo received the highest score and an "Excellence" rating in tests conducted by Il Salvagente. The evaluation highlighted the superior quality of its organoleptic properties and confirmed the absence of pesticides and glyphosates.
AL BRONZO EXPERIENCE
We have all been there, standing in the kitchen, craving a delicious pasta dish but struggling to find the right inspiration. That’s why, in collaboration with Chef Davide Oldani, we’ve created several recipes that pair our Barilla Al Bronzo pasta with both familiar and unexpected ingredients. Ideal, whether you’re looking to recreate your favourite flavours or try something new.
In 2022, to mark our 145th anniversary, we reopened the doors of our first Bottega – the small shop in the heart of Parma where it all began back in 1877.
Today, this historic Bottega is home to the secrets of Al Bronzo. After meticulous restoration work, the new Bottega has been designed as an immersive experience, where the rich history and future of pasta come together in the present. Always in the spirit of Al Bronzo.
“I’m thrilled with this achievement,” said Ilaria Lodigiani, our Chief Category and Marketing Officer, reflecting on the rebranding of Al Bronzo. “I can’t wait to see Barilla Al Bronzo capture the hearts of our consumers in Italy and around the world."
