Being the largest pasta producer is a strong responsibility: that is why we select only the best quality durum wheat in the world, cultivated in the most sustainable way, consistent with our mission “Good for You, Good for the Planet”.
In all geographies in which we produce our pasta, we work with local farmers to develop the value chain in terms of quality and economic, environmental and social sustainability. We do it by applying the Barilla Sustainable Farming Code and by developing good agronomical practices with local research centers and universities.
Barilla was founded in Parma in 1877 and, since then, it has always been Italian to the core. Barilla is Italian in its close ties with the land, and in its continuous quest for innovation in technology, processes and its products. It is profoundly Italian in the way that its unyielding entrepreneurial spirit has led it to becoming the world’s largest pasta manufacturer.
The Company still has its headquarters in Parma, and is owned and directed by the fourth-generation of the Barilla family, brothers Guido, Luca and Paolo.
A PRACTICAL DECISION, NOT AN IDEOLOGICAL ONE
When it comes to using genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) in the agricultural and food industry, people are still concerned about the possible risks involved with this type of application, and are wondering just what sort of real opportunities do actually exist.
Barilla has therefore decided to play it safe and refrain from the use of genetically modified ingredients, guaranteeing not to use GMO ingredients for all its products. This choice, which stems from our manufacturing strategy, is unrelated to any ideological commitments.
In line with our purpose "Good for You, Good for the Planet", we pay great attention to animal welfare, which is essential for responsible and sustainable supply chains. For years we have therefore been committed to ensure that all suppliers of raw materials of animal origin comply not only with legal requirements, but also with the highest animal welfare standards and criteria.
