A new ace joins the Barilla team
21 March 2019
Parma, Thursday, March 21. The Barilla Group has signed an endorsement deal with Cori Gauff, one of the brightest young prospects in American tennis. Shortly after her 15th birthday, Cori makes her debut today with the Seniors at the 2019 Miami Tennis Open.
Born in 2004, Cori reached the US Open Junior final in 2017, becoming the youngest Grand Slam finalist in New York at just 13. Last summer, she won the Paris Grand Slam Junior final at Roland Garros.
Cori was born in Delray Beach in Florida, on the 13th of March 2004. She took up tennis at the age of six, and by the age of eight was already definitively devoting herself to the game. Nicknamed “Coco”, she prefers playing on hard courts like those in the Miami Open.
“Passion, dedication and fair play are values that inspire Barilla’s way of working. They are also fundamental qualities that we also look for in a sports personality, " said Luca Barilla, Vice Chairman of the Barilla Group. "We extend our warm welcome to Cori, an emerging star of American tennis, and we hope that she will be able to continue to interpret this spirit in the best possible way", concludes Luca Barilla.
BARILLA AND SPORTS: A TRADITION THAT CONTINUES
Ever since its historic sponsorship of the AS Roma soccer team in the 1980s, the Barilla Group has climbed onto the podium with numerous champions: most memorably of all, recently, the great Roger Federer and the skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin.
Mikaela Shiffrin has been a Barilla ambassador for seven years now, and in that period she has repeatedly triumphed on the slopes, becoming the youngest Olympic Champion in the history of Alpine skiing: among her trophies she boasts two Olympic titles, five world championships, two General World Cups and five special slalom World Cups.
Today, at the age of 23, she is at the top of the skiing world, but when she began her collaboration with Barilla she was only 16 and had everything to prove.
During his extraordinary career, Federer has collected a stunning amount of records: he holds the record for the number of weeks at the top of the world tennis ranking, has won 100 ATP singles tournaments, an unprecedented 20 Grand Slam wins, plus two Olympic medals.
Mikaela and Roger eat pasta every day and Barilla is their favorite - for the quality and trust it has always inspired in them.
From today, the Barilla team can count on three fantastic athletes from three different generations. Coco is the newcomer: she is a promising young talent, who also grew up and became strong thanks to hard training and a healthy diet. Coco trains and eats pasta every day, with the dream of becoming as great as Roger and Mikaela.
Barilla pasta, like sport, is good energy which ignites your life and nourishes passions. For this reason, pasta is not only a fundamental food for athletes, it’s an indispensable source of good carbs for everyone who needs vitality and taste in order to continue pursuing their goals.
