The real party is always in the kitchen. Federer and Oldani bring the party to life in the new Barilla commercial
22 February 2019
Parma, Friday, February 22. A formal and somewhat dull party is transformed into a memorable party thanks to pasta, the symbol of conviviality around the table that brings joy to those who share a passion for it. All this takes place in the authentic, informal and unconventional setting of a kitchen which, as is often the case in the Mediterranean tradition, becomes the real heart and soul of every party. This is what happens in Barilla’s new global commercial “The Master of Pasta: The Party” – created by the advertising agency 72&Sunny and on air from Saturday, February 23 – once again starring tennis legend Roger Federer and master chef Davide Oldani with an exceptional new entry: the multi-medalist world alpine skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin, also brand ambassador for the Barilla Group.
THE PARTY IS NOT COMING ALIVE? FEDERER AND OLDANI KNOW HOW TO GET IT GOING!
The setting is a magnificent 18th century villa near Lake Como. The event is an elegant reception, with a glamorous and exclusive guest list. But when Roger Federer walks into the reception hall, the atmosphere is not really exciting, as we can tell by the looks he exchanges with his friend and fellow champion, Mikaela Shiffrin. The Swiss champion then looks into the kitchen, where he finds his culinary master Davide Oldani. And this is where Roger Federer pulls out his trump card: a box of Barilla spaghetti, to get the real party going. In no time, the party comes alive and moves into the kitchen, where everyone gets involved in the preparation of the spaghetti dish to the sound of music and laughter. When the pasta is ready, it passes the ultimate test when everyone gets to taste it. Buon Appetito!
THE ADVERTISEMENT’S RECIPE: SPAGHETTI WITH CAPERS, OLIVES, TOMATOES AND... HORSERADISH
In this commercial, the Federer-Oldani duo delights the taste buds of the party guests who come rushing into the kitchen, treating them to an intriguing dish of “spaghetti withcapers, olives and tomatoes”: the chef’s special touches include few slivers of grated horseradish, to enhance the flavor, and a fried Spaghetti to add a different texture element to the dish.
The recipe is a real celebration of simplicity and of the typical ingredients used in traditional Mediterranean cuisine, as they blend with Barilla pasta in a perfect fusion of flavors. Together, they create a tasty, iconic and healthy dish that turns into the symbol of a party where everyone gets involved through the excitement of sharing joyful and healthy food.
DAVIDE OLDANI, ROGER FEDERER AND MIKAELA SHIFFRIN: A WINNING TRIO!
Making up the trio is the greatest ever tennis player, Roger Federer, an icon of style and a lover of good food who, one year on from his debut in the kitchen, is showing growing skill and self-confidence. Then there is Davide Oldani, the Michelin-starred chef who has turned Pop Cuisine into one of his hallmarks and has now developed a truly enviable rapport with his favorite pupil.
They are joined by the amazing Mikaela Shiffrin, who recently triumphed at the World Skiing Championships in Are where she won 4 gold medals in one of the most memorable performances in alpine skiing. What do these celebrities have in common? Firstly talent, discipline, commitment, and a passion for simple things, but also their love of pasta, which these sporting champions simply cannot live without.
FEDERER AND SHIFFRIN: SPORTING CHAMPIONS AND PASTA LOVERS!
Over the course of his long and brilliant career, Federer has achieved many records and titles, with the most weeks (310) as the world's No. 1 tennis player, 99 ATP singles titles, a record 20 Grand Slam singles titles, as well as two Olympic medals. At this sort of level, nothing can be left to chance, least of all your diet. “A correct diet is essential to my success: pasta perfectly combines my nutritional needs with the desire to eat good-tasting food”,” he says.
Mikaela Shiffrin has been brand ambassador for Barilla for 7 years now, during which she has achieved many successes on the slopes, becoming the youngest medalist in Olympic Alpine Skiing. Her list of achievements also includes 2 Olympic gold medals, five world championships, two overall World Cup titles and five special slalom World Cup titles.
BARILLA AND SPORTS: PARTNERS IN ENERGY
Great sportsmen and women have always featured among Barilla brand ambassadors. The commercial, for instance, also includes Pietro Aradori, Cecilia Zandalasini and Marcella Filippi, all star players in Italy's national men's and women's basketball teams, of which Barilla is the main sponsor.
After all, sport is energy, dedication and commitment, just like Barilla pasta: good, life-giving energy that fuels passions and turns them into winning projects. That is why pasta is not only a key food for sportspeople, but also a vital source of carbohydrates for all those who need vitality and taste to keep pursuing their dreams.
