“Cooking is an Art” A Barilla and Olimpia Zagnoli collaboration
31 October 2018
Barilla and visual artist Olimpia Zagnoli joined forces to create a special Spaghetti Nº5 blue box, exclusively for this year's edition of the Pasta World Championship.
Milan, October 31, 2018 – A partnership that started a year ago, when the brand approached the renowned artist for the first time. The result was a minimalist and impactful illustration that covered hundreds of limited-edition Barilla Spaghetti Nº5 blue boxes during this year’s Pasta World Championship.
All the colours and shapes, deliciously studied until the smallest detail, giving the packaging a strong personality and allowing art to become a focal point. This exclusive box was crafted especially for the influencers and guests who attended the event to celebrate World Pasta Day
“We’ve been following Olimpia with admiration for several years now because we love her style. It’s simple and joyful, like spaghetti al pomodoro! The image that she created for us is also a message of love and inclusion, something very important for Barilla”, said Kristen Anderson, Chief Diversity Officer at Barilla Group.
When addressed about the collaboration, Zagnoli explained: “I designed a couple of women in love sharing a plate of spaghetti late at night and sent it. I waited for a response, thinking Barilla would never accept it but guess what: they did”.
Simple and powerful, a unique celebration of creativity and freedom that both art and cuisine share.
“In recent years, we’ve taken significant steps towards a path of diversity and inclusion. We think it’s not only the right thing to do, but also fundamental for our business”, said Kristen Anderson. “The last step we took was alongside the Thomson Reuters Foundation for the Openly project, a news platform for a global audience looking for official, impartial and reliable news on all issues concerning the LGBT + community”.
The artist has demonstrated with Barilla, once again, that her art genuinely reflects her way of thinking and that self-expression and cooking really go hand in hand.
