I never imagined that working at Barilla would give me so much: every morning I wake up satisfied with the path I have undertaken and looking to the future with interest.
I began my career at Barilla in 2019 and had the opportunity to work with both the Agronomy Research team and the Pesto and Sauce Process Innovation team.
It was a truly exciting start, because I immediately had the opportunity to develop new skills in food technology and to study the impact of basil as a raw material on Barilla ready-made sauces: I literally followed the basil from the field to the table!
I am a graduate in Agricultural Sciences and it was exciting for me to see the entire food supply chain and discover how, through the skilful work of food technologists, raw materials become good, high quality products, available to everyone on supermarket shelves.
In 2020 I moved permanently to the Agronomy Research team and dedicated myself 100% to research and innovation in basil cultivation techniques, to further increase the sustainability and quality of our Pesto alla Genovese.
2020 was also the year of establishment of the Basil Charter, which tells the story of our sustainability journey, through which we are committed primarily on three fronts: the supply of basil from sustainable agriculture, the protection of biodiversity and the enhancement of farming communities.
Also in 2020, we launched the Regenerative Agriculture Research Platform, which aims to restore the health of degraded soils by trapping atmospheric carbon in the soil and increasing biodiversity. I have a real passion for this area of research because, by studying how to apply regenerative agriculture to our supply chains, I feel I am doing my part for people and the environment.
What I like most about my job is being able to face ever new and exciting challenges which, thanks to teamwork, become achievable. Furthermore, by interfacing with prestigious national and international research centres and universities, not a day goes by when I don't learn something new: which this is truly wonderful.
Barilla is the right place to turn your passion into your profession: I feel like I am living a unique experience which has enriched me greatly, both professionally and as a human being, and I am sure that the company will bring me many more incentives and satisfactions!
