I joined the Barilla Group in the hot summer of 2018. From day one onwards, I realized I had arrived at a unique company, a real business family!
In recent years my path has taken me into the Italy Marketing department, where my scope is both in terms of business – working on go-to-market communication strategies – and product innovation.
A first aspect that I consider to be really valuable at a company like Barilla is the possibility to work on multiple product categories, giving us the opportunity to see and understand their specifics and how they work, which constantly nourishes our curiosity about the world of food.
Another aspect I think is very important for professional and personal growth: in all our projects, we have the opportunity to be fully immersed in the work. This ‘immersion’ is very challenging but also highly rewarding and stimulating.
The first time I experienced ‘immersion’ was under a month after I joined the company, when I spent a week at the Rubbiano sauces plant and witnessed the afternoon shift of Barilla pesto production. Seeing the production lines in operation, coming into direct contact with the quality of our products, and feeling the dedication of the people behind them gave me the energy I needed to start thinking about the new product launch plan for the following year!
Another example? Taking part in workshops with experts in product development, to design and create new recipes to be brought to life in the innovation funnel. Going back into the product creation process also gives us a better understanding of the features and factors that differentiate us from the rest of the market.
Being a young professional at Barilla also gives you the opportunity to interact on a daily basis with colleagues whose backgrounds are wide-ranging and who work in different departments (such as R&D, Trade Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Packaging, etc.). Each and every one of them can make an invaluable contribution to your journey of continuing professional development: genuine interdepartmental cross-fertilization! Every day at work we have the opportunity to share our ideas, discuss projects in various fields, and pick up on so many stimuli, working in teams where mutual trust is the common denominator.
