My background is definitely not the most linear.
I was awarded a diploma in Computer Science, graduated in Innovation Economics in Italy and then spent a few years abroad, in England and Switzerland, first achieving a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence and then carrying out research in a university setting.
Back in Italy, I decided to fully embrace the field of security - which has always been a great passion of mine - and then gradually specialize in Cybersecurity.
I joined Barilla in the second half of 2020, when the company - despite being in the midst of a pandemic period - was still planning its future and was specifically looking for someone to lead a new global Plants Cybersecurity program.
I took up the challenge and, a few years later, I couldn't be happier with the choice I made.
All of us at Barilla are responsible for ensuring that our consumers receive the products they want promptly and in compliance with high quality standards. Action must therefore be taken - even proactively - against any risks that might undermine the achievement of this goal.
My team and I focus on the risks arising from cybersecurity threats to which our production plants are exposed, in order to prevent malicious attackers from altering or disrupting production processes.
It is a tough challenge, given the extremely wide perimeter we have to protect. But we are not alone in this battle. In fact, we can count on the cooperation of extraordinary colleagues, from those who develop and maintain the technological infrastructure, through to those who design and implement the automation lines, and those who work on these lines on a daily basis.
There is constant interaction: every day, we analyse less clear-cut incidents together and intervene promptly where necessary.
Working in cybersecurity at Barilla means standing on a bridge that connects tradition – represented by the products we make, based on simple and natural ingredients – with the most advanced innovation.
And in doing so, we are surrounded by people who fully understand the importance of our goals and who, even working in different fields, are always at our side to help us keep the company safe.
