Nutrition

The situation in developed countries is complex:

People are living longer and the average age is increasing.
• Recently, there has been an enormous increase in the incidence of obesity and metabolic syndromes, starting from childhood.
• There is growing pressure from institutions to take initiatives to prevent illnesses caused by unhealthy eating.

Food manufacturers are being called upon to produce foods and nutritional models that are better for people’s health.

Healthy eating is the key element that contributes to people’s well-being every day.

Barilla offers safe, tasty, practical products for everyday use that are designed to develop a correct eating model and propagate a healthy lifestyle.

Barilla relies on the advice of a group of experts, the Nutrition Board, as well as research centers all over the world to stay constantly up-to-date on the progress made by scientific research, and thus be able to anticipate emerging nutritional trends.

In addition, this nutrition network enables the company to promote clinical studies and trials of its products.

PROGRESS TO DATE

DAILY WELL-BEING

  • We have improved our approach to nutrition by strengthening the company structure concerned with this issue and setting up a Nutrition Advisory Board of experts in the field. We have written a position paper on nutrition setting out clear guidelines.
  • We do not use GMO ingredients and hydrogenated fats in our products for precautionary reasons. We give preference to natural extracts and highly nutritious ingredients, and are developing processes that preserve the quality characteristics of our products.
  • We have adopted a nutrition information and education policy (labels on products, healthy eating advice on packaging).

PRODUCTS FOR SPECIFIC DIETARY NEEDS

  • We have developed whole-grain products, products rich in fiber, products containing vegetables, products with reduced sodium and/or fat content. We have launched products that help improve people’s mental and physical well-being by meeting particular dietary or health requirements.
