Supply chain

Consumers are demanding that companies, in particular food manufacturers, guarantee the economic, social and environmental sustainability of their supply chains, which are tending to become increasingly complex as a result of globalization.

Barilla purchases 740 different raw materials worldwide and 50 types of packaging material from a total of 843 suppliers. The group controls 80 supply chains for procuring raw materials and five for packaging materials.

To manage so complex a process, and satisfy consumers’ concerns about sustainability, we have developed a system of controls.

This involves selecting the best and most reliable suppliers, and at the same time introducing control and cooperation systems to ensure ongoing improvements in the quality of the goods we supply.

By monitoring the production methods of its suppliers, Barilla seeks to ensure the safety and quality of its raw materials, and the sustainability of its networks.

PROGRESS TO DATE

PARTNERSHIP

We have created “integrated networks” for strategic raw materials (durum wheat and tomatoes) through cooperation and exchange of know-how with suppliers.

STANDARDS

We ensure the soundness of our procurement networks by developing know-how and applying prevention and control procedures: selecting suppliers on the basis of BRC (British Retail Consortium) criteria and making quality specifications an integral part of our contracts with suppliers.
Suppliers are assessed according to their performances.
